The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns by two weeks, moving it from April 1 to April 14, 2026.
The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS.

According to the agency, the extension is designed to give taxpayers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns.
LIRS Urges Compliance
LIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Ayodele Subair, stressed the importance of timely filing, urging individuals to make tax compliance a routine personal responsibility.
He also reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method, as manual submissions have been completely phased out.
Key Reminders for Taxpayers
- File your annual tax returns before the new deadline: April 14, 2026
- Use only the LIRS eTax platform for submission
- Ensure your Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is accurate to avoid delays
Dr. Subair further encouraged taxpayers to verify their details carefully, noting that accurate filings will help ensure a smooth and efficient process.
Commitment to Efficient Tax Administration
The extension underscores LIRS’s commitment to making tax filing easier, more efficient, and accessible for Lagos residents, while promoting voluntary compliance.
